Comfort Kits are small collections of items designed to help children in difficult situations. They're simple to put together and include small items with instructions about how the items can be used to help a child feel better and cope with their problems — from pain and illness to trauma and displacement.
Comfort Kits are as simple as a few items in a backpack or cloth tote bag. The small items listed below go into a colorful gift bag that cinches closed to make it a "gift." Then everything goes inside the canvas tote. Printed instructions that describe the Comfort Mind-Body Practices and a table of contents card with a link to view the video guide are also included.
Place them on your belly to watch them go up and down when breathing — a playful way to practice belly breathing. Also great for engaging children in pretend play and storytelling.
Blowing bubbles requires long, slow breaths — a natural breathing regulation exercise. Children can notice how their body feels as they slow down, and observe the connection between mind and body.
Used with the progressive muscle relaxation exercise in the instruction booklet — squeeze and release to notice the difference between tension and calm in the body.
Along with the blank notebook, these give children a place to draw, write, or doodle about their experiences and feelings — helping to externalize and organize what they are thinking and feeling.
A personal space to express thoughts, feelings, and experiences through writing or drawing. The notebook belongs to the child — it's theirs to keep.
Biodots are small stickers that change color with body temperature, which warms as we relax. Watching the color shift gives children visible proof that their mind-body practices are working.
A fun way to send the message that these toys and skills are important to keep and carry. Stickers also make the kit feel personal and joyful, not clinical.
Large enough to hold the journal and other items. Decorating it is itself a calming, creative activity — and it becomes a keepsake container the child can carry with them.
